Go solar, save on electricity bills

With rooftop solar you can eliminate or significantly reduce your electricity bills. The net metering connects the solar system on the rooftop to the grid. The extra electricity generated after the home requirement is met goes to the grid. The amount for excess units supplied to the grid is reduced from the electricity bill.

The scheme is good for the environment as well as pocket friendly. There is capital involved in the installation of the solar panels. However, the savings in the long run outweigh the cost involved. One of the biggest advantages is that solar panels can be installed on the rooftop, no additional land is required. The panels are low maintenance and come with service life of 20-25 years. The solar scheme is currently available at a subsidized rate from the government of India.

1kWp solar rooftop plant can generate 4.6kWh of electricity per day (considering 5.5 sunshine hours). A 5kW system installed on the rooftop costs around 3 lacs (approximately 2.1 lacs with subsidy) can generate savings of INR 3,450 per month or INR 41,400 per annum and in total lifetime (25 years) considerable savings of INR 10,35,000 (assuming tariff@6/kWh,Haryana).
