Prefabricated versus Traditional Homes

Prefabricated homes are extremely popular in the western countries. However, in India are in the very nascent stage. Tata Nest In, Loom Crafts, Champion, and EPack Homes are few of the prominent players in the prefabricated segment in India. The traditional brick and the mortar houses are expensive and take long time to build. Prefabricated homes are affordable and faster to build. Modular, Panelized, Manufactured, Porta Cabins and Container homes fall under the prefabricated category. Mobile homes which are commonly known as tiny house on the wheels are also a type of a prefab.

Prefabricated homes can have spectacular interior and appeal similar to that of the traditional homes. The material used in the construction can be steel, concrete, glass, metal and wood. However, the cost of the construction of a prefab is considerably lower than the traditional homes. The cost of the prefab home depends on the size and the design requirement. Prefab structures are of consistent quality and can withstand harsh weather conditions. The structure is generally built offsite then transported assembled onsite on the land parcel with the plumbing and the electrical fittings.

Prefab homes are highly energy efficient and environment friendly. Prefab structures can be built anywhere as long as these are compliant with the area building code and the safety standards. Currently, prefab construction in India is mostly done for the commercial, hotels, resorts and holiday home purposes. Prefab structures are slowly gaining acceptance in the residential space. Prefabricated homes are a smart living solution for the young population and the masses, financing for which can be obtained through the bank.
